In the current fast-paced world of digital products, it’s not often that Lightroom Presets find themselves rubbing shoulders with million-dollar sensations. It’s usually online courses by renowned entrepreneurs or tik tok viral ebooks that hit those impressive sales figures. 😮💰

You’re right. Lightroom Presets don’t usually make over $1M in revenue. Certainly not anymore.

But let me take you back to the good ol’ days of Presets – before the industry was oversaturated – when certain Preset Packs were making waves 🌊 and raking in sales year after year 📈✨

The Era Of ✨Preset Scarcity✨

Were you a Photographer back BEFORE the industry was oversaturated with Presets? 😮

I’ll always remember my obsession with the “Cascade” Presets by Benj Haisch, or the captivating Black + White Presets from “A Fist Full Of Bolts” (I’m drooling now just thinking about them) 😍 📸 And who could forget the craze surrounding India Earl’s release of her “Honey” Preset Pack, with its unique golden tones that forever altered editing trends. ✨🍯

While we LOVE India’s editing (We chose India to photograph us for our Alaska Elopement. Needless to say we’re big fans), we felt a gap in the market. 👀

During an era dominated by increasingly intense warm edits, we wanted to create Presets with more neutral tones and highlights for photographers who didn’t quite vibe with the warmer style. 🌅📷

As Wedding Photographers, we needed Presets that would be versatile enough to meet high demands – able to cohesively edit hundreds of images that ranged in lighting, tone and people!

We’d never found a Preset that worked on ALL images, and the multi packs we had purchased weren’t able to be applied consistently.

While there were a few dominant Preset Packs raking in six figures, we still hadn’t found the one.

We’d also spent years being jaded by expensive preset purchases that were too intense or cinematic for client galleries, or worse – outdated and hard to use. In other words, wildly disappointing. 😔

Trust me when I say I was on a MISSION to create One Preset to Rule Them All.

The Era Of ✨ Creating The Impossible ✨

I don’t remember ever being this nervous. 😬

It’s February 14th, 2019, and we’re about to release Seasons Presets into the world after a year’s worth of hard, unpaid work. 💪

A year is probably far too long to spend on one product, but I was (and am) a perfectionist and overdeliverer.

Even after I got the tones ‘just right,’ I couldn’t work out Seasons Presets should be packaged. 🤔

We eventually landed on a unique way to structure Seasons Presets. Instead of our Preset Pack containing the standard 10 or 20 presets, we sold a pack with just ONE Color and ONE Black and White Preset that could do it all.

Yes, ONE. The Preset for Every Season was our catch phrase. 🌸🌞🍂❄️

Here’s the kicker. We included 12 ‘Adjustments’ that could be applied on TOP of the Color Preset. These adjustments gave different looks, and were designed specifically to work with a wide range of lighting and color scenarios. Our Customers could easily edit their large galleries while keeping a consistent tone, all with just a single adjustment click! 😎

While we’ve ultimately moved away from the ‘adjustment’ model, it was a really unique idea at the time, and had many benefits for customizations and layering. Nowadays Seasons Ai Presets are more traditional in structure (with 74 Presets in 3 tonal sets included).

Then (and now) our Customers get their money’s worth with all the options 💰💯

Anyway – back to our very nervous 2019 Valentines Day. We had poured our hearts and souls into the process of creating Seasons Presets. For over a year we meticulously refined, tested, gathered feedback from photographers, rinse + repeat.

Blood, sweat, and tear-stained keyboards later…

Seasons Presets made their debut on Valentines Day in early 2019. We held our breath. 🤞 The sales started pouring in. More importantly, so did the Reviews. In their very first week on the market, Seasons Presets were described as:

Not to mention they, like most Lightroom Presets, would have immediately become outdated as soon as Adobe released their major updates (more about the impact of Ai in the next blog post), stopping them from ever getting a seat at the million-dollar product table…

And yet… despite massive changes to the photography (and preset) industry, Seasons Presets continue to sell. 📸💥💰

As I’m writing this, Seasons Presets have amassed a staggering $1.25 Million Dollars in revenue. 💸💪
