We had a reception party in Sydney two months before our wedding. We are so thankful that we were able to celebrate our marriage with Athena’s family and friends. Every moment was filled with beauty and we were at a loss for words; we were so grateful to everyone who came to pray over us and send us off into marriage together!

For us this event really redefined how we saw our wedding day. Celebrating our marriage before it begun obviously came with unique territory, but it helped us focus more on the marriage than on the party. It helped us care more about being a wife and husband then being a bride and groom. We were committed to not looking back on our engagement season as a time we spent stressing over our wedding, and instead sowing into our future marriage. Because we ended up having four celebrations instead of one wedding, it became all about the bigger picture of marriage rather than ‘one day in a white dress.’

Our photographer, James Simmons, absolutely killed it - his photos are insane and we were so humbled to be in front of his lens all day. To this day we’ve never felt more at ease in front of a camera and given hilarious and sweet prompts to create these moments. We don’t have words for how much we love these photos. They are extremely special because they captured us both in Australia, a place that will always be home.
