Jen + Andrew’s surprise proposal was emotional and relieving and epic in every way.
If these two look familiar to you it’s probably because we’ve photographed them twice already – once in the snow at Lake Wenatchee, and once at sunset in Deception Pass. When Andrew called Camron and told him he was planning on proposing to Jen with her grandmother’s ring on the upcoming Thursday, and if we want to be involved, it was the easiest YES. I swear I never get over the intense privilege and joy of shooting a proposal – a sacred, holy and intimate moment that no one usually gets to see, but WE do!
We told Jen we needed them to model for a video idea we were putting together for our youtube channel. It was elaborate and detailed and we managed to really convince her that we were simply getting footage for our own use. We convinced them to drive all the way out to Gold Creek Pond, one of our favorite spots, and at noon we met them (thank God for an overcast day!) for one hour of shooting.
After about half an hour of shooting, I took them to this spot. Andrew knew the exact prompt we would use when the light and setting was just right for him to propose. We asked a prompt I’ve given them before for photos –
“Make three promises to each other for the next year. They can be simple, funny, romantic, whatever you want. Start the sentence with, ‘in the next year I promise to…'”
Jen went first, and when Andrew was talking I was so nervous the camera was shaking. I have been waiting for this moment as long as I’ve known Jen (3 years!). He dropped the knee and time stood still and it was everything and more. So thankful we captured it and the moments that followed!
He took her to lunch in Seattle then on a PLANE ride over the mountains, then to a surprise party with all of their friends. We printed a few photos and gave it to them that night, along with a link to the whole gallery. Camron also made a sweet video (coming soon!).
Three days later Jen called me and asked us to SHOOT THEIR WEDDING! We are so so excited that they would trust us with this huge responsibility and joy!
